DeleteAnswer 16 .The purpose of showing the documentary ‘Protect and survive ‘was to inform the children about the protective measures that they should adopt if there is a nuclear warfare. It was shown to spread the awareness regarding the radioactive occurrence and to alarm the people about the dangers they will face at the time of the nuclear war. Mr. Rhodes informed them about the consequences if they do not adopt those measures. Danny and Andrew were not paying attention and were making fun of their teacher .

The CDT people were not really concerned about the people of Skipley. They used to provide people with piousness food which contained a small amount of poison so that the people do not die easily , and nobody doubts them. Branwell told Danny that he does not have proper shelter and food and that he is not secure and will die here. Danny then joined MASADA.

ReplyDeleteQ3- Danny hated Rhodes because he was also responsible for the death of Alec Booth and Richard (Danny’s father). After Richard’s demise he did not even bother to apologize to Danny or Ben but instead defended himself saying that it was not his fault. Most of the MASADA members agreed that he was violent but they did not expect him to be as greedy and ruthless as he was towards the end of the story. Danny said “This is Rhodes. He likes killing people". Danny also said "One thing I hate more than Rhodes its history".

Q5- The CDT people act as if they are tying to help the people survive but later on their true colors are revealed.When the CDT people capture Danny they torture them and try to make Danny tell them about MASADA..In act 3 scene 6 Griffiths says to Danny" I finished off more spacers than you've had hot dinners" .This shows their brutality and inhuman behavior .We have also been told that when a lady names Mrs.Norton asked for some water while she was working in the Kershaw's Farm with all the others farmer, Dumperton did not give her any water at all and she fainted and later died due to dehydration.The CDT people are so ruthless that they served poisoned food to the people and also poisoned water in the well,due to this many people even turned into Goths meaning cannibals.

Shadow man explains tragic scenario of the war .People were present physically but not mentally and they were dead from inside. They were surrounded by the darkness. They were really depressed because wait was not being over. They were desolated and they did not have power to struggle from the situation of war. They were deprived of hope. People were not in the condition of performing any job or activity .the buildings turn in to grave. People were tired of looking at blood and dead bodies all around them this made people to become spacers. The lives of people have become useless. Many people have lost their hope and people away from the war situation are considered lucky by the shadow man

After the death of his parents, Richard and Mary, he became more considerate about his brother, Ben’s comfort and protection. He accepted the proposal of joining the MASADA, which was an organization to rebel against the Civil Defense Team .Kim motivated Danny to join MASADA . When Danny asked what Kim was doing in MASADA she answered "Surviving .same as everyone else. You coming or what?" .After this Danny joined MASADA.

DeleteQ6- Branwell said to Danny in act 2 scene 9 "He who places his brother in the land is everywhere" then he explained the saying "Its an old herbew saying .It means that people everywhere are having to bury their loved ones-" .Then later on in the play script ,Ben dies so the title gets more significant as Ben is Danny's brother and Danny has to bury Ben as he is dead thus he has to put his 'Brother In The Land'. In other place were we are told the significance of the title is when Shadow Man makes a speech in Act 4 scene 5 "The cradle crashes with council crushed,an old man takes a stand, ashes from flashes ,blood to dust ,other brothers will take this land". This means that Shadow Man is saying that life in the present is hard and people have to fight for their rights against the CDT people so may be when the war will end future generations will be able to live in peace and harmony. The significance of the title "Brother In The Land" is that due to the war many people have had to say good bye to their loved ones for ever and brothers have been killed due to the war. The only hope that the people have is that the future generation will live peacefully and live a normal life.

ReplyDeleteThe readers are introduced to some language changes in the play script. After the nuclear war in the Brother in the Land, society changed dramatically.
The word spacer was used in the play script. It refers to the people who cannot come to terms with what has happened. The shock and horror of the events leave them dazed and confused. They are unable to speak sensibly.
Badger is an animal with spikes on its body. It is very rare and does not come out for long times. This indicates that food found in Skipley was in a very small amount. People had to hunt for food. Because of the nuclear warfare the land became infertile and the farmers could not grow the crops.
Another terminology Goths was used. Goths are the people who are human eaters. They eat the human meat. This was another consequence of the war. People were so exhausted, because they did not have any food. So, they started eating the people around them. They became wild.
Invalids: Invalids are people who are ill, physically and mentally, both. They cannot react to certain things and do not have the ability to think properly.
